St Bartholomew’s School – Newbury

Refurbishment

The alteration of the two school buildings, Luker and Wormestall to provide apartments.

The older of the two buildings, Wormestall is of Victorian origin but had been much changed over the years with a significant number of additions.  To achieve the desired final usage, it was necessary to undo much of this work as well as repair the existing fabric and accommodate changes by the removal of walls, formation of openings and areas of new construction.

The Luker building although of more recent construction and in mostly original form required substantial structural alterations to suit residential usage.  This involved the removal of a significant number of load bearing walls and the installation on supporting steelwork, and where appropriate, new foundations.

For both buildings Reuby & Stagg also undertook the design of the below ground foul and surface water drainage together with areas of hard-standing and through routes
