38,500 sq.ft Distribution Centre consisting of a single 44m span steel portal frame with 7m clear height to underside of haunch.

Considerable de-contamination of the site was required before construction could commence which resulted in extensive disturbance of the sub-soil and the importation of large quantities of fill material. Our design of the external hardstanding took account of the remedial works and was developed to minimise the overall construction thickness required.

After such a large de-contamination programme it was essential that the surface water drainage design took account of the developments use, to prevent further pollution occurring to the adjacent Grand Union Canal. The drainage design was also constrained by the need to accommodate flows from adjacent sites and to discharge into existing outfalls.

The distribution centre, purpose built for TNT, incorporates 7,000 sq.ft. of offices on two floors within the building envelope.

The single span steel frame is clad in composite panels supported by cold rolled purlins. Internally the elevations are lined with fair-faced blockwork extending to a height of 2.1m.
